Kenton’s most recent meal was after having come from the
gym. He writes, “As any avid
reader of Men's Health will tell you, one's post workout meal is their most
important meal of the day.” This shows that on a personal level he is into
fitness and maintaining a healthy lifestyle. On a cultural level he is part of
a growing community of fitness-oriented individuals. A stereotypical American
meal is fast, slopping, and presumably unhealthy- Kenton’s meal satisfies two
of the three. He makes a quick meal aimed towards his goal of a healthy lifestyle
rather than just consuming something like McDonalds or other “fast food”
providers. His habits link into our culture’s culinary habits because we, as a
society, are always on the go in our ever-accelerating paces of living. In
other cultures, like many European countries, dining is a long-lasting event
that is not skipped nor rushed. Finally, after Kenton has finished his classes
for the day he writes that he will be ravaging a pile of half a dozen bagels.
This clearly demonstrates Kenton’s inner-hefty man whose being was vanquished years
prior to the present.
